Cooking Insight: The Bitter Gourd
Yesterday was the day.........
I cook bitter gourd for the first time in my entire life-_-""..lol?
Usually what dad buys and stock in the fridge, I'll have to use my own creativeness to make it into a dish with whatever there's available. -_-" It takes up a lot of energy and thinking, can be stress you know. Cooking is hell a chore and a hard one. It involves thinking, planning, carrying out your action plan and the worst part cleaning up. It is just like any other business proposal or plan that you see in daily lives except this is in the kitchen and you have to clean up a hell of a mess at the end of the day.
Just one fine day, I open the fridge and was shock..okie lar not so serious..more like surprise to see a bitter gourd laying in my fridge!! I tried hard to ignore it for a few days actually since there were other vegetables laying around..but there comes the time I can no longer ignore it anymore, it's gonna rot if I don't cook it -_-". So the previous day before yesterday, I decided to cook it the next day, thinking I would have an idea how to on the day itself.
But..guess what? When the day arrived, I open the fridge, I took out the bitter gourd..look at it..and my mind still a total blank and totally no idea on how should i do it..so as usual, the SUPERJEAN takeover and hentam aje la!!bantai!!WAHAHAHA! :p crazy -_-"
I really forgot la and was way too lazy to look through the tons of my mom's recipe book..
Following my common sense, I took the seed out..but I totally forget whether to peel or not to peel the skin to cook it the way I imagined, so I just peel it off :/..I forget what are the side ingredients, so I just go with my usual garlic, pieces of pork and my now 'speciality jean own made sauce'. I wanted to actually go with 'har my aka small prawns' and the 'tausi aka small black beans-like thingy' but then I realize I'm out of stock for both of the ingredients, so no choice just go with whatever I have on hand...it turn out all right, not bad actually, I'll cut down on the garlic next time..
The ironic part is..
Today...
I went out and ate bittergourd for dinner =.='
..and I saw they din peel the skin and slice it thin..now I know the way to cut it already :D
According to my own observation, if you wanna peel the skin, then cook it the so called- soft way, means either you slowly boil or simmer it with your other ingredients, usually go with those a lot of sauce kind lar, it'll be very soft. If you want the normal way, fried/stir-fried way, I think it is not necessary to peel the skin, it'll taste better.more bites and chewy gua :/. yes they use garlic and I think the small bits look like onions O_o..and I can't figure out what ingredient in the sauce they use. sticky pekat kinda sauce, possibly cornflour inside? Not sure, but it taste good.
So yeah, I think I know how to cook bitter gourd the next time if it appear in my fridge again! :)..swt..-_-"..wth?!I can't believe I'm actually posting this.
Recent lesson learned: Cooking ain't easy..-_-" is actually really tiring after you have a long day especially T_T..and you still have to stand and labour at least err around 1-2 hours in the kitchen, can be more 3-4 hrs, depending on what you dishes + soup are like and methods of cooking, I don't mind the cooking part, but I totally hate the preparing, washing part. The cutting, peeling, washing, 'rendam-ing', slicing...etc of the ingredients--THAT is the ONE OF THE MOST time consuming part! and the WORST PART--THE CLEANING PART: the washing up of the woks, pots, knife, bowls, wiping stove, etc and it sometimes involve mopping--oil cause stickness on the floors and windows. and your body feel sticky too -_-". that why my advice: COOK BEFORE YOU BATH!!!!!
So next time if you are lucky enough to have someone cooking for you, even though it taste like shit, just shut your mouth and swallow the bloody thing quietly..appreciate the time and effort of the person spent, and the fact there's food on the table for you without you having to move a single finger, so the least you can do is refrain yourself from complaining and whining and gulp the thing down. Oh well, if it's really un-edible, just force a few in your mouth and go vomit it out in the toilet or smtg and declare that you are already full. If not, the best way is just cook yourself...that's if you trust that you can do it better. :D kekeke..
Note to self: If I ever get married, I'll DEFINITELY ABSOLUTELY TOTALLY NEVER EVER gonna be the one cooking for my so called hubby, well maybe excluding special events/annivesaries (* applicable only maximum of 5 times per year). If not, he can forget about marrying me! :D He better be rich, so we can eat out or hire a maid well if he's THAT RICH, hire a chef instead :D. But we will still need the maid, cause YEAH, IM SO NOT GONNA DO THE IRONING AND LAUNDRY either..well can consider the washing if there's a washing machine or I just dump it at the kedai dobi. WAHAHAHHA. that why is better to marry a rich guy, that makes life soooo much easier :D. hmm..actually considering the fact, maybe I should just get an old ah pek who's filthy rich and dying soon so I can get the $$$. $_$".lol!!or sugar daddies anyone??hahaha..XD jk jk..
Anyway my expectations are sky high:
1) smart
2)cool/cute/handsome (at least la presentable, avrg looking can still be considered definitely not like my stalkers: NO WAY!!!)
3)attitude: caring/gentleman is a must, sweet & romantic (not too extreme kind, that will be disgusting and meluat edi =.=)
4) mature thinking with a bit of childishness @ not a boring toad/dead log either & able to have fun & withstand my craziness XD..
5) I don't mind with a tad of bad boy look/ attitude XD..hahahha!
6) Rich :( notice I put this as the last..though I'm really money minded $_$
Hmm won't mind too if he's not rich but smart enough to be rich...wakakakka..
Such guys don't exist anymore lar, if they do, it's either taken or way too hard to get..so I don't think I'm gonna get attached anytime soon..kekekeke..:p
LOL this post is getting out of topic..swt=.='..
